The Hôtel de Ville is an imposing building complex in the 4th arrondissement built from Notre Dame de Paris in the neo-Renaissance style. Serves as the City Hall of Paris. Free free exhibitions are here every year.
The Paris City Hall is decorated with 108 statues dedicated to famous Parisians and another 30 statues symbolizing French cities. The clock on the central tower is adorned with female sculptures that represent the Seine, the city of Paris, "Work" and "Education".
The interior of the town hall is decorated in pompous imperial style. The main attractions are the grand staircase, the long ballroom (Salle des Fêtes), painted ceilings and walls, and countless chandeliers.

Previously, this place was a pebble beach on the banks of the Seine, until the creation by local merchants in 1141 of the port "Porte de Greve", next to which was the Place de Greve. It is in its place that the building of the Paris City Hall is now located.
After the XIII century, the control of Paris was transferred from the governor of the king to the guilds. The merchant's guild was the most influential and, at the initiative of its head, Etienne Marcel, at the beginning of the 14th century, the city administration building was built. On the building of the Hôtel de Ville, you can see an equestrian statue in honor of Etienne Marcel.

Now, next to the square, there is a newly rebuilt copy of the city hall, since the historic building was burned down during the Paris Commune. French architects managed to restore all the details of the building, including 136 sculptural images of various figures of the country of those times, the symbolism of large cities in France and allegorical images of sins and virtues.
