Rothenburg (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) is an unusually romantic, beautiful and cozy Medieval city that makes an indelible impression on its guests. Powerful stone bastions, immersed in greenery and flowers, the City Hall, the observation deck which is now used for the most peaceful purposes, charming, like toy houses and Gothic churches - everything breathes history and remembers the former power of Rothenburg.
Kaiserburg Castle, built on the right bank of the Tauber River in 1142 as the imperial castle of the Staufen dynasty, marked the beginning of the development of Rothenburg. In 1274 the city received the Free Diploma, and from that moment the era of its rapid prosperity began, the peak of which came at the end of the XIV-beginning of the XV century.

But during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) Rothenburg lost its power, and then withdrew to Bavaria. The stone ring of the fortress wall was intended to serve as a reliable defense for the city. The Spitalbastai Bastion is especially impressive with its power - seven gates, a drawbridge and a double passage along the fortress wall - a truly impregnable defensive structure.

The Gothic Church of St. James is famous for its three stunningly beautiful altars, made by the famous woodcarver Tillmann Riemenschneider.
